State of N.C. Alcohol Agents Raid Moonshine Still
Though Prohibition is long over in most counties, there are still many illegal manufacturers of alcohol. North Carolina's Alcohol Law Enforcement Agents, with the assistance of the Johnston County Sheriff's Office, have arrested two men for unlawfully making and distributing alcohol without paying any taxes on it.
John L. Wood and James C. Adams were arrested during the raid. More than 255 gallons of moonshine were seized, and another almost 4,000 gallons of corn mash were destroyed. Corn mash is used to make moonshine. The men had a few hundred dollars in their car. They have both been charged with alcohol law violations.
Another bust resulted in almost 300 gallons being seized, as well as more than $1,000 and three vehicles. The owners of the moonshine have been charged with more than 12 violations.
