Marine Corps Commander Arrested for DWI
Col. Douglas Denn, the commander of the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, was pulled over Monday around 11:00 p.m. in a routine traffic stop. He was asked by police to submit a breath test because it was suspected that he was driving while intoxicated (DWI), which is a criminal offense.
The colonel blew a .14, meaning that his blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was almost twice the legal limit, .08. He was arrested and taken to Carteret County jail. According to sources, Denn was also ticketed for speeding.
Denn is a commander of more than 2,000 civilians and service members at Cherry Point. He has not yet faced disciplinary action from the Marines.
