Man Accused of Stealing Copper from Hospital
While most people think of cash, cars and other valuables as regular targets of theft, they may be surprised to learn about one thief recently caught in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The suspect, a 33-year-old male, was taken into custody last week for stealing 2,000 feet of copper cable, along with several hundred lightning rods made of aluminum. All of this had been taken from the top of a local hospital last month.
The police department that apprehended the suspect credits the public for helping bring the man into custody as several people came forward with reports of witnessing the suspect on the roof of the hospital. Although they thought little of it at the time, when reports of the theft came out, people came forward to give their reports to law enforcement.
After being identified by several hospital employees in a photo lineup, the suspect was apprehended at his home and taken into police custody. In the future, officers hope to rely on more public tips to locate wanted offenders.
