Suspect Faces Multiple Charges Including Burglary
A community has followed the legal proceedings of a young man who will now stand trial for raping and murdering a respected local official.
The trial will be heard starting in March and the suspect will have to answer to the charges against him; first-degree rape, burglary and murder. Reports indicate that the alleged attack happened on March 6, 2010, when the 62-year-old female victim was recovering from surgery at a friend's house. When the friend returned to her home after the attack she saw that the victim was unresponsive and bloody.
Based on the testimony given by the victim and evidence left behind at the scene, Raleigh police were finally able to locate suspect. Although it took them 41 days, they found the man just a few miles away at a local campground. The suspect has retained three attorneys for his trial which is scheduled to begin next spring. Sources reveal that it could take as long as one to three months to reach a verdict.
