Pseudoephedrine Will Be Regulated in North Carolina If New Bill Passes
If a new bill is passed in North Carolina, the sale of pseudoephedrine would be heavily regulated.
The bill was passed this month in the state Senate and now awaits Gov. Bev Purdue's signature. Under the new law, pharmacists would be required to check a national database of pseudoephedrine usage whenever someone wants to purchase it. This ingredient, normally found in over-the-counter cold medications, is also used illegally to make methamphetamine.
In an attempt to curtail methamphetamine labs across the state that are fueled by psedoephedrine purchases. Under the current law, any can purchase two packages of products containing the ingredient at one time; however, no more than three items containing pseudoephedrine can be bought within a 30 day period. When the new law is passed, the state will start using the National Precursor Log Exchange, joining a dozen other states that are already employing it.
