DUI Offender Leads Police on Chase
Not only does one man from North Carolina face DUI charges, but also those of causing an accident and leaving the scene of a crime, both of which involved a South Carolina state trooper.
Reports show that last Monday night the suspect was speeding on a highway when a trooper took notice and attempted to pull him over. Instead, the man gave accelerated, reaching speeds of 100 MPH.
During the chase, the SUV and the trooper's vehicle collided at one point, the impact of which caused the squad car to catch on fire. Rather than stay to help the officer, the man took off. Luckily, there were several witnesses who rushed to assist the injured officer.
Police say that the suspect may have escaped capture if he had not struck another vehicle before heading to a nearby city. At some point in the evening, fellow officers responded and employed stop sticks to impede the vehicle and arrest the driver.
