Employee Steals Lottery Tickets from Employer
One woman thought she would increase her chances of winning the lottery by obtaining $400 worth of tickets. The only problem was that she stole them from the very grocery store where she was employed.
According to the Raleigh Police Department, the 44-year-old woman was arrested last week and taken into custody by an agent from the State Bureau of Investigation. After tracking her movements, the agency was able to determine that the woman had stolen hundreds of dollars worth of lotto tickets while working at the store. This was not a recent event, however, as the agency believes that she has been stealing tickets since March 2007.
While the face value of the tickets was worth just $400, she did accumulate $389,001 in winnings. Police say that she was charged with one count of embezzlement, which is considered a felony in the state of North Carolina. The woman is now being held in lieu of $400,000 bail at a local jail.
